Cruelty Free Pest Control Works

Wade Robins asked:

When it comes to pest control of rabbits and small raccoons some of us might have hard time with the cruelty of some pest control products. Unfortunately, not everything can be joyous and nice in life. Some pests cannot be controlled in nice ways. Some methods of pest control allow us not to feel so bad for the bunnies other fuzzy “critters” that can do damage to our properties.

More Cruelty Free Pest Control Methods

When thinking of cruelty free pest control methods it really depends on what type of pest you are trying to rid your home and property of. If you are fighting, infestations of insects there are no nice ways to do it. Chemicals and poisons is really the only effective ways to rid your home and properties of many insects. Some rodents such as rats have become somewhat used to some of the chemicals and some can survive only to come back with more friends and family to invade your home and family.

Some rats will kill smaller pets in your home and they can carry some real nasty diseases. Some more humane methods of pest control might be ultrasonic pest control or live traps where the animal is trapped then taken and released in an area away from your home and family. Others will destroy and kill other pets and animals you may have and there is no other choice but to shoot them or find a professional method. If you have coyotes roaming near by they almost always have to be destroyed due to some of them might attack. They hunt in small packs and can be very dangerous.

If Dealing With Professionals For Cruelty Free Pest Control

If you method of pest control is to call a professional to help you rid your property and home of pest make sure you talk to them about all of the options they may have to offer. If you have a wild animal issue, the local DNR or Animal Control will come out to handle them. In some cases, the Humane Society will help replace the animal away from the city or your home. If you are dealing with insect infestations there are options you can choose from for treatments. If you are dealing with rodents there are also options in dealing with them. Make sure you ask questions and get answers. Make sure you are dealing with professionals that are trained and licensed. See what kind of guarantee they have to offer. Make sure if chemicals or poisons are use that you have emergency numbers kept close by in case of trouble. Be aware of all the dangers and cautions in using some products. Cruelty free pest control products are available so do some research and find out what your options might be.

Pest control is not something to take lightly. You should do research before entering a store to buy a product as well as speak with a professional about the harmful effects of the pesticides. You want to know everything before eradicating those pests.

The Difference Between Pigeon Control to Crow Control

Written by admin on . Posted in Home Improvement

David Yifrach asked:

In order to understand the difference between pigeon removal to crow removal, first we shall learn about the damages that each group creates.

The human kind nurtured the Pigeons and the crows consciously or unconsciously.

The crows are known to be omnivores, so as such they eat fruits in the fields (watermelon or melon fields) and pecan nuts which can be found abundantly in the orchards. Corpses of other animals that were ran down by cars, leftovers out of the garbage and chicks and young cubs of other animals.

The Pigeons are vegetarian so the lion’s share of their meal is seeds and kernels which can be found abundantly in fields, cowsheds, wheat granaries, bakeries etc.

Food “stealing” is a fine motive for the man to methods against birds such as pigeons and crows.

Crows build their nests on trees and crannies in the rocks as opposed to the pigeons which prefer nesting in buildings and create a severe amount of mess, transfer diseases, spread bad smells and increase the parasites economy.

Crows are smart birds which have a well-developed memory. There have been cases when a bunch of crows attacked humans that they suspected to harm their chicks.

Sometimes, if a chick falls of a nest, the flock searches for it and if there are people somewhere by, they might be attacked by the vicious birds while innocent of any crime.

The pigeons are different on this case, if the chicks of the pigeon are been taken away, it will simply move on to another location until the next nesting season.

The pigeons create damage in the buildings: dirt on the walls, eaves trough plugging damage to cars and damage to stock in stores and storerooms.

Crows harm the nature (including other birds).

As a result of the food abundance, the number of crows in the nature was raised excessively so lack of territories was created.

Crows gain control on all of the territories, so instead of flying to the distance in the search for food, they eat voraciously the chicks and cubs of other animals, turtles, lizards etc.

As an answer for the damages and diseases that the birds brought, the human developed methods for bird control, some of the bird control methods are specialized for pigeons and some for crows.

The “techniques” of pigeons and crows have a little in common so that is way the solution for each kind is different.

Opposed to the pigeon, the crow does not transfer diseases and create mess therefore the motivation for the crow’s removal is much lower.

Pigeon removal [ bird control which is specialized against pigeons ] is done by two main bird control products :

Pigeon nets – pigeon nets prevent the entrance of pigeons to laundering rooms, roof space, warehouses, hangars etc.

The installation is very simple; stretching of a circumferential cable around the open and attachment of the net to the cable by threading or by using small rings.

Pigeon nets provide a 100% solution for preventing the pigeons’ entrance.

Crows do not intrude building therefore using bird nets for crow removal is pretty rare.

Stainless Steel Bird Spikes – The pigeons’ nuisance does not come to fruition by intruding building only, but by landing on gutters, building edges, air conditioners, roof tiles, banisters and windowsill and leaving their bird droppings anywhere by as well.

On most cases, the solution for this problem is pasting elastic bird spikes to the landing area which prevent the pigeons from landing. A similar solution is achieved by using bird coil or bird wire.

Crows land on edges and protuberances of objects such as buildings, antennas, water tanks, signs, and telephone or electricity posts. Therefore there is a similar solution against the crows; a special stainless steel bird spikes called Y model. Bird wire and bird coils don’t affect the crows.

Crows create a lot of damage in (watermelon and melon) fields as well as in pecan orchards; the solution for this problem is a huge net trap:

The trap looks like a great cage with a roof designed in a ‘V’ shape which has an open at the bottom of the ‘V’. A crow and bait are placed inside the trap, other crows fly in but they can’t get out because of their big wing span [which is bigger than the open of the cage]. This cage causes death to many of the crows so I oppose to it.

Traps for capturing pigeons are in use mainly in big warehouses and airports but not infields – in fields the solution is usually shooting or using crow dummies.

Spray Insulation: Earth Friendly Building Material

Andrew Stratton asked:

Today there are tons of new products derived from recycled and renewable resources that not only help the environment, but can help you save some serious cash. If you want to do more for the planet than just recycle cans and bring reusable grocery bags to the store, consider turning your house into a green project and what better place to start changing to greener alternatives than with the very walls of your own home?

Spray foam insulation is an earth-friendly building material that not only pays for itself but can even produce a healthy profit. It is made from recyclable and renewable materials and is an investment that will make your house more energy efficient and even add value to your property.

Most homes use fiberglass sheets for insulation. These wiry, pink fibers provide minimal climate control and have been known to cause health problems. The sharp material can irritate skin when touched, and loose particles can become caught in the throat, creating scars inside of the esophagus. Although it may seem like a great deal, since fiberglass is cheaper to install than other types of insulation, it comes apart easily, often needing to be partially or fully replaced.

Spray polyurethane foam, commonly referred to as SPF, is a spray-applied insulating foam plastic that is installed as a liquid and then expands many times its original size. It is extremely energy efficient because it easily fills cracks and openings on the surface, making a solid barrier to protect against outside elements.

The tight seal it creates makes it the most energy – efficient insulation available. You won’t have to crank up the heater or air conditioner like you have to with fiberglass. And it stays put. You probably will never have to worry about repairs or replacement.

Spray foam insulation also acts as a pest, moisture, and sound repellant. Because it seals so thoroughly, spray foam insulation makes it nearly impossible for insects and other critters to sneak into your home. You’ll spend next to nothing on pest control and won’t have to fill the air with harmful pesticides.

Likewise moisture doesn’t stand a chance against the armor-like spray foam. You won’t have to worry about mold, which can destroy your house. And the cushioned walls even easily absorb excess noise, ensuring that you can’t hear your neighbors and they can’t hear you.

Polyurethane insulation is not only durable, but very versatile. It can be sprayed onto ceilings and floors to add extra protection and insulation. Due to the messy nature of the product, it is highly recommended to have professionals perform the job.

The best way to get green is to start in with your own home, and spray foam insulation is the ideal, environmentally friendly choice. You’ll not only improve your home, but you’ll help save energy and will contribute to a product that serves to protect the planet. For a small investment, you can save big money over the years with the knowledge that you are contributing to a worthy cause.

The Truth About Termites

Written by admin on . Posted in Home Improvement

Modern Pest Services asked:

Every day many homes are targeted by a dangerous predator that causes thousands of dollars worth of damage – subterranean termites. And often, there is no evidence of their presence until it’s too late. These termites live in underground colonies and work 24 hours a day to destroy your home from the inside out.

Do I Have Termites?

There may be no warning signs to tell you if termites are in or near your home, but look for these:

1. Termites “swarming” during the day and often after rainfall.

2. Mud tunnels appearing on or around the foundation.

3. Baseboards and floors which may sound hollow.

4. Dead termites or termite wings on window sills or along walls

What do termites look like?

The Eastern Subterranean termite is normally 1/16 to 1/2 inch in length. They are soft-bodied insects that require moisture to live and therefore spend their lifetime within the soil, shelter tubes they build or wood in which they feed. A heavy infestation can contain a quarter million workers.

Termites seek out and feed on wood from the inside out, causing the wood to appear normal until it is almost completely destroyed. Moisture damaged and decayed wood is preferred and eaten faster than sound wood.

Because termites avoid exposure to light and air, they are seldom seen and can cause serious and costly damage to your home before you ever see them. When termites are observed, it is usually the winged reproductives (swarmers) that are the first visible indication that termites are present. Swarmers emerge from the nest on warm, sunny days in the spring and fall.

Unfortunately, without a proper Termite protection plan, termites can go unnoticed for years while continuing to damage your home.
