Tribune/WGN poll: August is least favorite summer month
June in Chicago — lovely. July’s great too, and you can’t beat September, as the heat subsides and the football begins and the leaves start to think about changing. But August? how to get rid of those big red fire ants.i have 3 colonies that need ro go.tried everything.help?

in my acre of land including my house.Theres some fire ants and were ok with that.but once summer comes were going to be having a lot of get togethers, birthdays, fathers day, etc….and we usually bar b q outside.this time we need to get rid of the fire ants.but its not the small tiny tiny ones that still hurt, but the bigger red ones.Ive tried everything myself.
at first i bought some ant killer from wal mart, the stuff you sprinkle on the colony.that didnt work.So i took things into my own hand, literally.
I tried to flood um out,i threw fireworks on there….i wacked um with a stick, and whatever you do the next morning there back…yesterday I went as far as pouring a gallon of gas and lighting it.(dont ask)anyway that worked but for an hour or two.Now i made a moat around the colony so hopefully theres no way for them to get food and they die.(which i doubt will work)

whats the best thing to do.my last choice would be to hire the exterminator for 60-100$

call a professional PCO
from what i understand fire ants are dangerous
we don’t have them where i am from
but if your pesty only charges $60 to 100 i would jump at it
i would n’t get out of bed to treat ants for under $300
