Poll: The joy of June, the agony of February
Summer hold’s Chicagoan’s favorite months — but August gets burned, new Tribune/WGN poll finds June in Chicago — lovely. July’s great too, and you can’t beat September, as the heat subsides and the football begins and the leaves start to think about changing.

Roach problem… help!?
I live in Chicago, and a few months ago, my next door neighbors said they started noticing roaches in their apartment. Since they had only seen a few, and they were moving soon, they didn’t do anything about it. Since then, they have moved out and the roaches have gotten worse, traveling over to my apartment.
Not only am I disgusted, I’m terrified of them! (One jumped on me from the ceiling!)
I’ve had an exterminator come here twice, he sprayed and set up traps, but it doesn’t look like it’s done anything. (Recently, I killed two huge ones and noticed they had egg sacks, so I flushed them down the toilet so they wouldn’t hatch and spread)
What is a cheap and easy way to get rid of these things as quickly as possible?? I can’t stand it anymore. Does peppermint oil work? Please help!
We had a problem with roaches many years ago and tried cure after cure until THE CURE came through a trip to Lowe’s. We purchased a bag of Spectracide, “Triazicide” in granule form. It has worked so well I keep a bag handy year around. It is inexpensive, easy to use and much less trouble than having the bug man’s ineffective spray. It also works on a host of other bugs.
In the house I use caps from a milk carton, or the screw on style used on fruit juice, anything that will hold a 1/4 teaspoon (just an estimate) of the granules. It does not take very much! I will distribute the caps into various cabinets placing them behind anything we have stored-dishes, glasses- you get the idea. Having grandchildren we are careful not to place any out on the floor where they can be found. I have placed them behind the fridge on the floor with good success and in the bathroom cabinets, especially the sink cabinet.
IF YOU DO THIS MAKE SURE CHILDREN AND PETS WILL NOT/CANNOT GET INTO IT!
READ THE LABEL AND ALL WARNINGS!
It does not take long to see the results. I have used this and within a few hours begin to find dead roaches on the floor. I use it outside sprinkling a little around our home’s foundation and in the natural areas where we have pine straw and get the same effect. Dead bugs everywhere!
We live in the south east and here we have palmetto bugs. Some of these grow to be MONSTERS!!!! Up to 3″ and sometimes larger…same effect.
Hope this works for you like it does for us.
