How do I keep bugs in my home at bay?

I live in an apartment and my son’s first birthday is tomorrow and we’re having the party here. Unfortunately the apartment that we live in is plagued with bugs that live in the walls of our apartment. We are clean people and no matter what we do, the bugs persist. There is an exterminator that comes out at times, but I’ve actually seen bugs come back out 10 minutes after that joke leaves. I understand that the only real way to rid our apartment of bugs for good is to go into the walls and kill some nests, but in the meantime, what is the best way to keep roaches at bay, at least for tomorrow during the party? Lights? Loud music? Bleach? Boric acid? Please help.

Since the party is tomorrow, I would think lights will be your best option. They don’t tend to show when the lights are on.

As a long term approach I would be very persistent with the use of boric acid for a while, but if it is a whole building problem there may not be a lot you can do other than move. And then you have to be sure you don’t take them with you.
