What should I know about buying a home in Florida?

I live in wisconsin and we’re moving to tallahassee…I heard that you have to have exterminators out there alot and the houses don’t stand up as well to the elements, what do I need to know/check for when I’m inspecting a home?

First of all Florida is a great place to live. All newer homes (build in 2002 or younger) will meet new Hurricane Standards. For older homes the building Industrie came up with some upgrades you can buy and install to make your home Hurricane safe. If the area suffers a direct hit, you are evacuating anyway and that is what you have insurance for. Only 20 Miles away from the Eye of Hurricane Charley in 2004 our “older home” did not suffer any damages at all.

Yes most of us down here in Florida have a pest control spraying every month for Termites and some other nice “pets”. Tallahassee is pretty far north in Florida and the climate is not as tropic as it is down here in Southwest. That means that you probably will not have a major pest problem.
